ICBUILD – Boosting the internationalisation for circularity in the building environment (2021-2024)

ELCA is partner of the European project “ICBUILD – Boosting the internationalisation for circularity in the building environment” co-financed by the EU COSME Programme.

ICBUILD is the European Cluster Partnerships for Going International (ESCP4i) to boost the cluster members` internationalisation in 5 third countries: Canada, India, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

ICBUILD Consortium supports its associated SMEs to access the selected extra-EU markets by providing market-oriented business services and training, including international missions.

The goal is to improve the internationalization of complex circular solutions integrated in construction value chains. Circularity is not referred to particular competitive characteristic of product to be exported. It is embedded as approach to reach objectives of circular economy and building sustainability within building life cycle and value chains. At the proposal stage we identified three value chains where project partners (cluster, their members) can provide joint value proposition addressing circularity in buildings:

  • Smart, low carbon office and apartment buildings applying circular economy and sustainability approach with integrated e-mobility, replicability for different climatic zone, BIM integration, modular& flexible design, smart materials, systems and components, appliances and utilities integrated with BMS, building digitalization (3D scanning and modelling);
  • Construction and demolition waste management, on site-recycling & use of recycled materials, resource efficient separation and collection systems, use of industrial waste/end-of-life materials from other industries (including Circularity in Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE);
  • Bio house made of natural or ecologically grown materials for healthy living in public building and private houses.

ICBUILD project organizes international missions to the third countries for all SMEs associated with ICBUILD partners, and operating within the sustainable building value chains. The objective is to actively support companies in exploring business opportunities in these extra-EU countries, by offering the opportunity to join the Consortium’s exploratory missions with travel vouchers.

ICBUILD organized the 1° international mission in Dubai (UAE) from 5 to 8 December 2022. This was a great business opportunity for ICBUILD cluster partners and their associated SMEs to engage in B2B and tailored meetings with key companies, research entities, and intermediaries as well as strategic visits to Dubai Sustainable City, and BIG5exhibition.

The 2° international mission to Toronto (Canada) from 29 November to 01 December 2023 aimed to explore Canadian construction industry sector, meet with strategic Canadian building players such as construction associations, developers, certification offices during the Building Show 2023 in Toronto, the North America’s largest event for the design and construction sector.

ICBUILD partners are organizing a mission in New Delhi (India) during the Smart Cities Expo & Conference from 17 to 19 January 2024.

ICBUILD partners are organizing a mission to São Paulo (Brasil) during the FEICON fair, the largest gathering of the construction and architecture community in Latin America, from 2 to 5 April 2024.
